Sauvie Island is full of interesting things to do.
Every season is a wonderful experience of nature, events and activities.
Swimming & Sunbathing
The beautiful, white, sandy beaches are perfect for swimming, sunbathing, volleyball and picnicking. There is also a world famous clothing optional beach nicknamed “Nude Beach”.
Windsurfing & Kite boarding
Sauvie Island is located just 1.5 hrs from internationally renowned Hood River. Sauvie Island’s open beaches and open water are perfect for windsurfing and kite boarding.
Bike Riding
The island has become a favorite bike-riding destination. The most popular ride is the 12-mile loop around the lower end of the island.
U-Pick Farms
The island is an excellent farming area with soil so rich it can grow almost anything. You can sample the wonderful bounty this area offers at any of the fresh fruit and vegetable stands scattered throughout the island.
Boating
Kayaking, canoeing and water-skiing are all available. The Columbia River is one of the biggest waterways in the NW and is perfect for sailing and skiing. The lakes and streams on Sauvie Island are ideal for kayaking and canoeing exploration.
Fishing & Hunting
The lakes on the island provide warm-water varieties of fish such as catfish, perch, and crappie. The Columbia River and the Willamette River both offer salmon and steelhead fishing during open season. Hunting is available during the designated seasons which are usually late fall through winter. Walking Trails
Nature trails and game reserves are some of the most beautiful in the NW. Be sure to allow some time for bird watching or day hikes on your next visit to the island.
